Sea Turtle Release
Sea Turtle Release
Thousands of olive ridley turtles that were born on the beaches of the Pacific coast of Nayarit return every year to nest and lay their eggs in the same place where they were born, thus perpetuating their life cycle.
Just one olive ridley nest can contain up to 200 new hatchlings. The main challenge for the new turtle hatchlings is the short but dangerous journey they must take from the sandy beach to the sea, trying to avoid predatory birds and iguanas.
In recent years, the release of sea turtles in the Riviera Nayarit has become a major tourist attraction.
Secretariats of the Government of Mexico and marine biologists have created a series of programs for the protection of sea turtles with farms dedicated to their collection, incubation and release.
Sea turtle release programs in Riviera Nayarit have become a fascinating ecological adventure activity that delights Nayarit visitors with an interactive, educational and emotional experience that also maximizes the survival rate of new turtles.
Crocodilarians and Turtle Release
Riviera Nayarit has several sea turtle release programs and guided visits to crocodile sanctuaries available, such as a visit to “El Quelele”, a swampy lagoon where American crocodiles exist in a safe and protected environment.
