It is currently the third highest grossing Mexican film of all times, second only to Not acceptedso returns and We the Nobles.

In this film, Ezequiel (Omar Chaparro), a thief turned teacher, seeks to grow up to be able to take Lucy (Martha Higareda) to the altar, while he must win with his students, a competition that takes place in Puerto Vallarta, where he They will face another school run by Lucy's ex-boyfriend, played by Aaron Díaz.

The Daughters of April

Las hijas de Abril is a 2017 Mexican film, directed and written by Michel Franco. It premiered on May 20 of that year at the Cannes Film Festival and on June 23 in Mexico. It stars Emma Suárez, Ana Valeria Becerril, Joanna Larequi, Enrique Arrizon, Hernán Mendoza, Giovanna Zacarías and Iván Cortés.

This movie Valeria (Ana Valeria Becerril) is a girl who gets pregnant at 17 years old. She lives in Puerto Vallarta with her half sister, Clara (Joanna Larequi), who suffers from depression. Valeria does not want her mother, Abril (Emma Suarez), who has been absent for some time, to find out about her pregnancy. But because of financial limitations and the great responsibility that comes with having a baby, her sister decides to call her mother, who discovers why her daughters had avoided contact with her.

This impressive drama film was nominated to be part of the Una Certain Mirada section of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, finally winning the Special Jury Prize for that section.

 

After Lucia

After Lucia

Another super drama is on the recommendation list this time, and it is "After Lucia." This is the director and screenwriter Michel Franco's debut feature, and no, you didn't read it wrong, it's the same one who directs “Las hijas de Abril” and apparently she's in love with Puerto Vallarta. 

The film received, in May 2012, the prize corresponding to the Un Certain Regard section (A certain 

look) in the 65th. edition (2012) of the Cannes Festival, and a special mention in the cycle “Horizontes Latinos” at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, in addition to the special “Hugo de Plata” Jury Prize at the Chicago International Film Festival .

The story describes the relationship between Roberto (Hernán Mendoza) and his 17-year-old daughter Alejandra (Tessa Ia). Roberto is depressed after losing his wife in a car accident and decides to leave Puerto Vallarta and go live in Mexico City. Alejandra tries to help him, but a very difficult situation arises for her at the school she arrives at: she begins to be a victim of bullying and harassment by her new classmates. He decides to "take his mother's place and say nothing about his situation, to protect his father."
